Anyone ever try a Sony MMD 650A Data Disc (used in the sony Disccam video) in the Yamaha MD8. I just picked a new Yamaha MD8 up and thought if they worked that I may buy some. If it worked, it would provide a good deal more recording time. I know that on my Tascam DA-88 I use HI-8 Sony video tape (HMP) and it works just as well as the DTRS DA-88 Digital tape.

Any help appreciated.

Yo RockWelltek: [your first name isn't "Norman" is it?

I've used the MD8 for a while but have never seen or heard of an "extended time data disc" for it. But, if it works, it works. Will it support the 8 tracks? Don't know.

Am now changing over to the Yamaha DAW 2816 and I will not be unplugging my MD8 for a while. Learning curve is due to stupid Yamaha Manual -- Yamaha sure is hurting for some intelligent folks to do manuals; I think Yamaha big wigs think than everyone who buys the unit is an engineer who worked on the building of the unit. Yoiks!

Let me know where you got this extended data disc after you let me know if it works.

Sorry Green,
Name not Norm. My name is Lee. Haven't bought or tried the MMD650 and was hoping someone already had. If you want to check the disc out here is the link I found it at.

Please let me know what you think. I purchased the MD8 for light mobile work and it will be delivered this week. Will let you know what I think. As for manuals and technical writers I agree, I got rid of my Roland for the same reason.

Yo Rock:

You will find the MD8 easy to use right out of the box; however, there are some complicated parts to it that I never use, like editing.

You won't get CD sound but you will get a pretty good job depending how well you mix down and what you mix into.

Like I said, I keep my MD8 plugged in; but, I do have to tell you, the 2816 has more headroom than a convention of bald people. I'm just starting with it but hope to get some good 24 bit stuff done and mixed to tape. I will get to doing some CD's but tape is easier at this moment.

Have fun with your MD8.
