Although the MK-011 was developed as a hand-held live performance mic it seems most of my clients are using it for instrument recording. So I perform both acoustical (single layer headbasket) and Premium Electronics mods on the MK-011.
If you're used to using a hand held vocal mic with an "extreme close mic'd" technique (lips almost touching the grille), I'd recommend leaving the stock headbakset in place. The stock headbasket has several layers of nylon mesh, foam and wire mesh to reduce pops. Of course like any mic that does this the downside is some loss of high frequency articulation.
Because the MK-011 is so flat and accurate with the potential to have a very extened HF response (with my headbasket mod) I think of this mic as probably being more appropriate for non-pop music. Think of a jazz or classical singer working a mic from about a foot away and below the mouth.
Also, most singers know and are used to the SM-58's presence peak centered in the 7-8kHz region. The MK-011 does not have this peak. Some singers might find it lacks an ability to cut through in a way they are used to as a result.
But the MK-011 is a great mic. Whether it would be great for you depends on your technique and what you're looking to hear.
