whats the average time ppl are given to mix an album or a decent amount of time for an engineer to mix out an album?
say in a label situation and or indy label with nationwide distrubution?

Anywhere from a couple of minutes to 50 years.

Seriously that is up to the engineer I suppose.

Actually it's up to whomever is footing the bill.

most often dependent on budget.
here we normally do a song a day, have a week minimum "break" when a project is finished, and then come back to do a day or two tweaking little bits.

10 minutes mixing to 1 hour tracking??

For me it's the other way around (Much more on the mixing than tracking), unless it's a very few number of tracks.

You can't really compare it that way.

I'd say minimum one hour mixing for every minute of music but it also depends on track count. Also if you do a lot of punch-ins to fix mistakes then that will usually make mixing easier. If you do a lot of comps then mixing is going to take longer.

All said and done ..about 8 hours average
When I used to go into a studio{player}We would do about {average}10 hrs. tracking and about 8 hrs. mixing per tune.Average time of song was 3 mins.
To me this is "Indi" release type of budget.
Dam we spent some cash recording demos..LOL
