i have a studio in a box, fostex vf80ex. and i can mix on it and pan and add eq n junk.
i was just wondering, how can i make it loud? should i pan if im only doing acoustic guitar and vox? when i mix i just put the guitar a little louder than my voice, is that bad? how much eq should i add?

i know these are stupid questions, but please help, i just want a good mix. thanks

Hey blood--I know this won't really be the answer you want to hear...those aren't stupid questions by any stretch, but they ARE unanswerable. Figure it this way--if somebody asked what color shirt they ought to buy, you would probably respond by asking questions involving other factors. All I could say, honestly, is go ahead and track your song and try a few different things and figure out what you think sounds best. Here's something important to keep in mind: Don't be afraid to record something that sounds like absolute shit. Do your best, and then try posting it in the MP3 clinic and let us give it a shot at helping you figure it out. When the people that know what they're doing here (I'm not one of them) hear your stuff, they can advise you.

And to answer your question on how to make it loud (and this has been asked and answered many times on here too), make sure that you have the strongest signal short of clipping that you can going in (close to -0db as possible). You can't get anything close to pro cd loudness with home recording gear, but you can still get decent results if you track it careful. Do a search on here to find other tips. But getting the loudest signal possible without clipping and distortion is a good start.

thanks guys, i will defnitely make shit for practice, hah but its the good part in learning. Is not panning at all normal? because i just bounced the tracks to 7 and 8 and it makes it stereo and equal ammounts of sound from both sides. so eh i dunno

Alot of stuff I do is just voice and guitar so I'll chip in on that part of your question.

Leave the vocal in the middle and pan the guitar just a bit to one side. Experiment with how far and see where sounds best.

I'd recommend you get the voice a little louder than the guitar.
