Hey
I would like to get some help on my mixes.
It seems my mixes are really messed up, though i compress everything.
This mess is becoming very clear specially at high volumes.
if my mixes sound fine at low volumes, when listening to them in high volume they are just awfull.

Here is a sample song:

I would be glad to get any tips how to fix this problem, or also just comments on this mix

Thanks
Aviel

there doesn't seem to be low end on anything. for about a minute or so, i thought that the double bass drumming was actually being played on the toms. the guitar doesn't have much low end to it either. try putting some on each of those if possible. like wise, the vocals sound like they have way to much reverb on them and they are hard to understand because of this and possibly being drowned out bby the guitars. is there a bassist in your band? are they going to record their part at any point? that might help this a bit. your mix is a little weird.....you can usually hear each instrument, but none of them sit well together. are you using a lot of eq? a little goes a long way when it comes to eq....

hope some of that helped.

Thanks.
I am using lot of EQ yes.
Do you mean i have to boost the lows on the base drum?
And actually there is a bass recorded there, cant it be heard?

check your mixes on lots of different systems!

I'm trying to understand this statement. Compressing everything and having a mix that's not "messed up" have nothing to do with each other. Other than the fact that the compression might be part of the reason for the mess.

Yea, the low end is definitely lacking (on my shit headphones, but that's partly my headphones :D)

Some of the vocals need to be brought forward more - a lot is getting lost.

Sounds like you should actually lay off the EQ a bit - it seems that you might be cutting out that bass a bit too much, if you were doing that to begin with.

As for the reverb on the vocals, that's a matter of taste. I've heard a lot of reverb on older-style metal recordings in the vocal part that gave it an angry, yet spacey kind of sound. Whether it works here or not, I couldn't tell you, as I don't listen to much metal myself... mostly older Metallica stuff.

Its strange because the mix sounds really "bassy" on my stereos.
it seems that it lack so clear mids, to make the guitar more stable and powerfull, but when adding those freqs the mix becomes to birght.

What the fuck are you guys listening to this stuff on ? ? ?:eek:

There are shorcomings with this mix ... but lack of low end is NOT one of them.

Shitty sounding guitars? Yes. Boomy sounding kick drum with way too much resonance and annoying ring... check.

Good snare ... total lack of definition on the bass guitar that needs some high-passing ... yea ... decent vocals and overall an ambitious concept. Not bad but needs work.
