Anyone know of any site that has info or FAQ on mixer repair/troubleshoot....

My Peavey Studiomix control mixer is dead after 2 months usage. :(

I have no qualified peavey service center around.

Please help me out. I am an electronic engineer and is comfortable to open the thing up. :)

Thanks!

Give us more specific info. What's not working?

If by dead you mean no lights, no sound, no nuttin', open it up and start looking at the power supply, fuses, etc.

If the innards are labelled fairly well, you should be able to identify the power supply terminals for various voltages, if it's an analog unit there will probably be +/- 12V, +/- 24 volts, something along those lines.

Yup, it's dead, no lights no nothing.....

I opened the mixer once and there's a power module with 12V and 5V output...

There's a fuse on the power module but it seems to be OK.

If the fuse is ok, what other thing could go wrong? the transformer?

I dun have a multimeter... maybe I'll go borrow one...

I hope the problem is only with the power module.... :(

It's hard to say what exactly is wrong but the fuse is always a good place to start. Just because it looks okay doesn't mean it is, sometimes the break in the wire is near one of the end caps.

Borrow or buy a voltmeter and check the fuse, then check the voltages you spoke of. Work backwards from there. Power supplies are usually pretty straight forward:

Transformer -> rectifier -> regulator

Throw in a fuse and some filter caps and voila, you have DC voltage.

Usually when something fails in a power supply there is physical evidence, things like:

1) A strong burnt smell

2) burnt or cracked components

3) burnt or cracked portions of circuit board.

This may sound silly, but don't rule out a bad power outlet or tripped breaker.
