I'm planning to buy a Audiotrak Inca 88 and a Behringer MX2004A (because Mackie is very expensive in norway). I'm going to connect 8 microphones to the Behringer, and I'm wondering if I can use the Behringer's inserts to record 8 track in one go...

If that's not possible, for what else use is the inserts?

If the board doesn´t have direct outs, you can use the inserts "half way in" as direct outs. Take a look to see if the inserts are before or after the EQ, if they are before the EQs (the mackies are) and you want to use the inserts as direct outs, you won´t be able to record any EQing to tape. Download the mackie manual and it´ll describe the procedure to use the inserts as direct outs much better.

You can use any insert as direct out pretty easily. I made some cables for that. Stereo jacks for the inserts with the tip and ring connected, and mono jack to the recorder. Easy....

Other use for inserts: mainly live, easily put in a compressor or gate on one channel, after the preamp, and without alot of wiring, just one cable that has the outgoing and incoming signal. Very handy....

I think there might be some links inside the mixer that you can cut or wire to change there post/pro EQ position. Check the manual. And if you are not experienced with soldering, get a tech to do it.

OK, what have happened so far:

I've got a offer on a Soundcraft Spirit F1, and I think I'll buy it if can be used as 8 seperate outputs to my (future) soundcard with 8 inputs. Anybody know?

Thanks!
