Mixer Help

Hi, I am trying to find a mixer that will keep all the tracks separate when sent to my computer so that I can edit and mix more accurately. I was looking at the Behringer XENYX X2442USB, since it has just about everything i need and is in my price range, but I cant tell if I will be able to get the full multi-track capabilities with the USB interface on here. Does anyone know if this mixer does that?

No it doesn't. It just sends two tracks out via USB. The majority of USB mixers simply provide a two track output via USB.

For a multi-track mixer interface, you will need to consider mixers like the A&H Zed r16, or the Presonus StudioLive
 
Only cheapie mixers I know that send multiple tracks (as opposed to a stereo mix) to your computer is the Alesis Multimix USB2 series. Make sure you get the "2" version...the originals only fed stereo.
 
I think everyone here knows what I'm about to suggest......Not yet.....Why is it that you are looking for a mixer? Do you need the interface for dual purpose of recording and PA?
 
I am planning on recording my band as well as some others, which I already do, but my current mixer doesnt have quite enough inputs for doing drums or live bands, and the USB connection only sends Stereo. So I am just looking for one that will have at least 8 XLR inputs, preferably a few extra, with preamps, and a connection to my computer that will keep all the tracks seperate. I had thought I was limited to USB but I just noticed a hidden Firewire port, so now I'm considering that. Other than Firewire, which has a better chance of being able to send multichannel, I dont know of any other options. If I were to get the Mixer that I had asked about above, since is has everything I want but the multichannel, is there another piece of equipment I could get that would sit between my mixer and computer and do this?

IMO, as well as many others here. The Tascam US 1800 will get you the most bang for the buck. 10 preamps with 8-XLR, 2-1/4". Total of 16 inputs directly to individual tracks in your computer. $300. USB2.0.

Wow thats a great deal. Is the individual tracks from the USB connection?

As far as Firewire Mixers go, what kinda things would you suggest looking at? Or does that option go way beyond my price range?
 
Yes sir. USB 2.0 is how the unit transfers digital information. The interface replaces your computers internal soundcard and D/A conversion. I believe you are in the +600 range for a mixer with multitrack capability.

If you are concerned with recording quality, all stuff on my website was recorded with the predecessor to the 1800. 1641. Same specs. It's not perfect, but well worth $300.
