Hi,
I might have the opportunity to pick up a TSR-8 in nice condition for cheap and I was wondering can I use the mixer from my 388 into the TSR-8 to record, at least until I get a seperate mixer for it? Please lemme know, Thanks, Todd.

Yes, it's a fine fit.

At the very basic, one TSR8 and one 388, you'll have to be certain you adhere to a strict patching/repatching regemin. You'll want to patch In's and Out's very carefully, (never simultaneously patched In & Out), lest you create a nasty feedback loop in the 388's mixer section, which is undesirable.

One way to get around that, minimum, is to score a Tascam M1-B 8ch line mixer, and use it as the CUE mix, for the outbound signal while overdubbing on the TSR8.

MIC/LINE-> 388_INPUT_1-8 -> 388_PGM_OUT_1-8 -> TSR8 INPUT_1-8 -> TSR8_OUTPUT_1-8 -> M1B_INPUT_1-8 -> Headphone or Amplified CUE MIX.

For full utility of EQ on Remix, you'd still want to repatch the TSR8 Outputs into the Line-In's of the 388.

This is a viable 8-track solution, given that you deal with certain details or idiosynchrasies of the setup. The 388's mixer is no less than top-notch, especially in it's class. The M1-B is a very key item, and streamlines the setup quite a bit.
