Ok, not forgetting that the quickest (most direct) way between two points is a straight line, I want to know does going from a 4-track unit to VHS then to cassette have any more sound quality than just going directly to the cassette??? Now, I'm not talking about making a master tape to make copies from, because I have always made the copies from the original sound source, be it 4-track analogue or digital. Oh, and said 4-track above is analogue, just for arguements sake...... Let me know what you think, those that have done both, thanks to you all!!!!!! Steve

Is the VHS analog too? If so, then the quality would be less. Each iteration of analog tape (regardless of format, 4-track, casette, Open Reel, VHS) introduces noise.

even if the VHS is digital it isn't going to clean up your sound. the D/A/D converters in the VHS will degrade the sound too.

Unless you use one of those old PCM converters in conjunction with the appropriate VCR, all other Hi-Fi VHS units record in ANALOG via a process called FM Modulation.
