Yeah, same here. The snare wasn't easy for me.

Here's mine

I have to say, mixing your tracks is harder than mixing Gergs. :laughings:
Cool, Squib.

I'm at work, so I can't listen until later.

If it helps, I can tell you guys that my snare mic is usually about half as loud as my overheads. And flipping the phase on the snare channel always helps.

That sounds great. Personally, I think there's too much snare mic...but that's only because I know the sound of my snare mic, so I can't help hearing it. You got that slap-back on the main riff, which is cool, too. Nice, full mix, man. There's nothing I would call "wrong" with it.

Thanks :D

Yeah, I didn't read the part where you said to reverse the phase. Once I flipped it, it sounded a lot better. I mixed the kick in with a sample too. How do you think that sounds? I think it might be a bit loud.

Thanks :D

Yeah, I don't think many people read it. :D

I had to go back and listen. It's such a good sounding kik, I thought it was mine. :D Nice and and full, but like you said, maybe a touch too loud.

heres my mix. hope yall like it. http://www.sendspace.com/file/zao4ms

Man, those guitars are loud!!! I'd have to get used to that. I like the sound you gave them, I think, but it's shaving my head at that volume, so it's hard to gauge if I like the sound. But I'm pretty sure that, at a lower volume, that's a great guitar sound. The mix is cool besides that. Thanx a lot, Shorty.

Hey Rami. I appreciate you putting these tracks up to work on, I'll jump at any chance to work on mixing and this one was for sure a great one to work with. I like this song. I haven't ever heard the original, but I'm sure you did it some real justice. I wish my raw tracks sounded half as good as these. Anyways, I really look forward to any advice you have to give if you don't mind. Once again, thanks.

i used two free acmebargig vst's for the guitars. the left guitar i used acmebargigs scar unlimited, its a tube distortion designer. and on the right guitar i used acmebargigs BIG. ( amp sim) that company has some pretty neat vst's especially their amp sims, and they have quite a few.

Wow! You put distortion on everything. Interesting choice. It definitely makes it sound more aggressive.
:)
Guitars re-amped, dble tracked some tracks a little phazed in places and verbed
Drums all re equed heavily and comped. Snare has dble track one which has gated verb on it. Comped Ov heads.
vox on four tracks with some verb, comp, re-phasing in places
bass equed (really like Garg's bass though)
All put thru a cple of other desks.

So, it's a bit rich at times but worth it - likeable song.

Couldn't resist stealing Greg's cowbell once or twice... So here's my mix: http://www.box.net/shared/ifl3u2fotz

Nice playing and tracking, Rami! It was a good excuse to try out the UAD-2 card I received some weeks ago. Had no time to put it to good use until now. There is just some comp and EQ on the tracks and 2bus. A gate here and there and I sent the guitars through a decent Guitar Rig 4 cab. Used an EMT-140 Plugin for reverb.

I liked Trumpino's, Greg's and your mix most - in no particular order; Greg's and Trumpinos mixes being a bit on the hotter side regarding loudness. Nice work on the rattle special fx, Greg!

@Shortadaman: your mix has kind of a different flavour than most of the other mixes (including mine), but after listening a few times to it, I really began to like the sound and different EQing of the song. It's not just the reamping of the guitars. Nice work! Still looking forward to Chili's mix :)

Good mix. Nice. I just find the snare a little thin. And that doesn't make it bad, I just have to get used to that sound after hearing mine about 1000 times. You might have not flipped the phase on the snare, which would make it meatier. But again, this might have been a deliberate choice on your part. If so, coolness.

Aside from that....good mix. :)

Thanks Rami. I did pull a little meat out of the snare as well as the overheads (trying to get better control of the cymbals) but may have gone overboard. I played for a couple of years with a great drummer (a little plug for my old friend Darick Felter here and here ) who used a steel-shell piccolo snare almost exclusively, and I find myself trying to emulate that sound probably more often than I should.

And yes, completely forgot about the phase thing.... :o

fun tune, thanks for upping the tracks. i used a whole lot of bootsy and a few other freebie plugs - mixed through my crusty o' cans, and i might have went a bit on the loud side.
(edit: couldn't leave it alone)

I somehow skipped this one. Sorry Trump. :(

This is a nice mix, Trump. Great separation and I like the vocal sound and slight delay on the vocals.

One thing I find with almost everyone's mixes, is that you guys all like having the snare mic up more than I'd be inclined to do. I don't know if it's because I know the sound of my tracks, so I can't be objective, or if I've been mixing my drums wrong, but I find my snare almost loud enough in my overheads. Maybe I should be less shy with my snare mic volume. You gave me something to listen for on my future mixes.

I'll get to the other posts later on. I gig on the week ends, and the last thing I want to hear on Sunday is more music. :D

Here's my take. Straight forward mix, no surprises. I was tempted to not have any reverb at all, I really liked the dry, upfront 'ambience'. eh, but I put a small plate on vox, snare and OH's.

I was also tempted to nudge some of the tracks out of time a little, so they wwould sound closer to my crap!!! haha :D but I didn't. Very tight performance!!!

Thanks for allowing us to mix one of your tunes. Fun!!!

Cool, thanks Rami.

Once again I want to say that you did a hell of a job on these tracks and it was a very fun project to be able to work on. :)

Thanks.

My take

Hello all, I'm new to the forum (I actually found the forum through a search for tracks to mix). I wanted something to test my new home mixing studio out. I think I'll definitely be spending more time on the forums.

Anyway, check out my mix and tell me what you think. It's a little different than the rest of the mixes I've heard so far. I spiced things up by running the guitars through Guitar Rig, as well as the bass to make it punch through the mix. Gives it a more rock feel. I used primarily my Waves plugins for the EQ and compression. Used a plate reverb on the Vox.

The file is a wav file because I refuse to compress my files to mp3, just as a general rule. I can't stand the swirling wishy-washy mess it turns everything to.
