put on the minor threat discography today in the car. what a great band. I was wondering if anyone knows about the gear or production or the remasters. I thought I remembered Ian saying maybe in the fugazi dvd that they started out recording on an 8-track. yet on this cd there is no audible hiss..... was this stuff done on a 1" or something? or are there new noise reduction techniques that were applied during the remasters? I haven't heard the originals. but man that guitar, the snare drum, the bass and the vocals all sound really, really good.

i've always been under the impression that the minor threat songs were recorded with some very nice gear
also.. there aint much high end whatsoever in those recordings so that could benefit the lack of hiss

have you heard the rites of springs remaster? blehhhh

im not sure at all... but I would like to know too..

Did you see american hardcore?
They mentioned recording for a few minutes
and how it wasnt fancy shmancy.. just a 4 track in an empty hall
.. i beleive it for some recordings

You should email Don Zientara at Inner Ear. He engineered all those sessions. He's a great engineer and a great guy and I'd be surprised if you didn't get a reply.
