One of the local music stores here had a fire. Some of the guitars were slightly damaged. I was looking at the Taylors. Some of them you can't even see any damage. 3000.00 dollar guitars going for 600.00 with case and tax included. I think I might pick one up?

Hmmmm 2400 seems alot to take off a guitar for no visible damage.....wonder if they're okay structurally?

I was playing them. some of them you can see damage. some you can't. the prices are varying from 6 to a grand. I have to go back over and sit for a couple of hours and play them. The one I really liked had the lower left side pulling away from the top in a very small section, you could see the space, could be fixed, lists for almost 3 grand and is selling for 600. I think I can get it for five,if I want to I could have it fixed. Some of them I could find no damage at all. I know the salesman personally, on one I couldn't find any damage on he says let me look at it. He couldn't find the damage but says it has to be some where or it wouldn't be hanging here for that price.

sounds like it might be a good deal.... make sure and bring a dental mirror to make sure there arent any other unseen issues under the hood.

They are prolly "firesaling" these as theyve already gotten pd by their insurance company.

Let us know how it turns out!

the insurance deals are already done. They had to junk a bunch of guitars and keep only ones with slight damage. They have been paid out the insurance for the ones they are still selling and knocking the price down per adjustment.

That's interesting...so an insurance adjuster has already determined that $2,400 worth of damage occurred to that (now) $600 guitar. So it's worth 1/5th of its original value...interesting indeed.

I'd do it, man...in a heartbeat. One of my favorite guitars has a cracked dovetail joint...I cracked it myself ten years ago and glued/clamped it. It's never given me a minute's trouble, and something like that is probably a lot more serious than smoke damage. The thing I'd be the most concerned about would be the glue.

Yes, you not only have to worry about smoke damage, but also heat and water damage. Make sure all the seams are good and the wood didn't dry out too much. I worked at a music store that had a fire (a loooong time ago) and some of the guitars, even though they didn't look perfect, made it through just fine. You just have to really look at what you want and make your decision. I'll take one too...where do you live?? ;)

If you like the guitar, do it. Sent it to Bob Taylor and have them fix it.-Richie

I was thinking the same thing.
here are the models they have
414CE
GS/MN
GS/RW
214
355-12
DN-4
410
they also have a martin D-15 for 500.00 that I can't find anything wrong with it.

I'd go for the one that is least damaged and plays best for you. By the model, I'd go for the 410CE only if it has the older Fishman stereo blender in it, or the 410 otherwise. I'm not a big fan of the expression system. In that case I'd rather get one with no electronics and install a Triad, LR Baggs, or Fishman system in it myself.-Richie

I wont go into details but my Guild D-17M kind of bit the dust. I installed a fishman in it. I may buy a non electric and take the fishman out of the Guild and put it in the tailor. I am going to go over and pick up one of the guitars some time this week. I was kind of partial to the GS/MN, it has the electric in it already.

Anyone looking for an old Martin. My bass player has an 0-18, 1956 he is looking to sell.

went today and bought the GS MPL/SPR ES

Maple top spruce sides and back/electric

Congrats on the guitar.

Umm... Are you sure that's not spruce top and maple back and sides? You must still be excited. :D

I've just never seen one with the woods in that configuration before. Hope you can post some of your playing up so we can hear it.

Ha, ha. You caught me in mid post. :D

I was looking at one of these in the new Zzounds catalog I just received. Really beautiful guitars.

funny, they don't show them with the electronics in them at their site yet this one has the electronics. I saw them in the store without the electronics in them also.

Congrats on the new guitar man, it looks great.

Post some clips. I'd like to hear it how it sounds.

I haven't had good experiences with the Taylors I've tried in the shops (they didn't have a huge selection though), but I've heard amazing sounding Taylors in a lot of recordings. Just curious how it sounds. If it sounds as good as it looks then you should be good. ;)
