That's cool.... maybe you could have used that space as an amp isolation booth or something... or a place to hide when your wife comes looking for you because you have been in the studio for 10 days straight... and its your anniversary or something like that (its bound to happen).

Its looking cool up there btw.

oh yeah... and when you said "You guys should say hi sometime."... who exactly were you talking to? Hearing those little voices again frederic?

I was thinking originally of putting a fridge in there, but I need the rack. Actually, I need three more racks, so I have some work to do to shove them somewhere.

A year ago I was thinking of putting four 8' high racks where the sofa and the webcam is going, but I decided to put in a producer's desk instead. I dunno, never enough space no matter how big the room is. To think all of this was in a 10x10 bedroom at one time. Thats actually how I got so into rackmount, it was the only way to stuff the gear against the wall. my original "floor stacking" idea definately wasn't cutting it in the old place!!

Its looking cool up there btw.

Thanks!

One of two particularly nasty spots I had to fix. The black paper is the backing of the old insulation, and there is very little fuzzy stuff on it, so out it has to come! Except, the radiator is in the way. Had I tackled this job two weeks ago, it would have been much easier, however with the heat on (and my wife saying "you're not turning it off!") an alternative plan had to occur.

Since radiators have openings between the "coils", I just used a long, skinny rod of 4130 I sharpened with a grinder, and used it as a pry bar. Not optimal, but it worked.

heres the same spot with insulation. Yay, progress. I tried leaning the radiator a bit to give me more room, yeah, right. What sucks is its not attached with collared pipe nuts, but rather brazed in. ZERO give at all.

Here is where it is now, with plywood, no sheetrock yet, and I no longer have a breeze from behind the radiator.

last and final picture for today... this a view through my "Construction Debris Disposal Unit".

Yes, its a window! Anyone wants free firewood, there's at least a cord of wood cut up and stacked (cedar planks), and another pile of random lengths ranging from 4' to 12', not cut yet.

I hope it snows soon :D

Wow... what a pile outside the window!

Are you going to get much isolation with just a sheet of plywood and a sheet of drywall? Sound not an issue in your neighborhood?

I'll give ya a call sometime... you don't talk with one of them there funny east coast accents do ya? hahahahaha

Yeah, what you can see in the pic is only a part of it. Straight down under the window there is a much bigger pile.

Well, i tested it, without any the sheet rock, and I turned everything up significantly louder than I'd mix at, and closed all the windows and went outside, and I could barely hear it. I mean, barely. If I opened the garage doors, then yet it was audible, but still not that loud. If I keep the garage doors closed, I could easily mix something at 2am and the cops wouldn't be called.

Naaaah, not that i'm aware of. Only if ya want, just thought it would be cool.

Today was a fun, but slow, lazy day. I've decided to take the rest of the night off and go relax with my wife. I've been working too hard for too long.

But today I collected all the "good" lumber, and got it out of the room into my wife's office in a neat stack, and the "bad" lumber (short scraps, etc) went out the "construction disposal unit" for me to saw up tomorrow. Gonna be a warm winter with the fireplace going :)

Also did some vacuuming, finally, maybe I can breathe better tomorrow.

Hung two more pieces of sheet rock, reattached the wallphone and my cousin taped and mudded a lot of the sheetrock that has been installed prior to today, as well as did the first swipe on the screw heads.

Not bad progress for a slow, lazy day.

Looks good up there frederic!

I can see the drywall you guys worked on.

I spent the weekend (besides being sick) doing honey-do's around the house... installing outlets etc for christmas lights :)

Oh yeah... I also moved a pool table to my basement :)

Tonight I hope to start drywalling my loft (which is the last big project before I can start the work on the studio!!!!)

I didn't just see you walking around the studio with a cigarette did I!!?!!

Nice and purty, huh? Unfortunately every wall has a slight wave to it thanks to the hand built construction in 1941. The amount of tape i'm using is incredible. Anyway, I did find sheet rock tape that has a metal strip in the middle, much nicer for making "snapped" edges, beats the paper-only type of tape.

Fun... I cut up a lot of the "construction disposal unit" pile outside, for fitment into the fireplace :) Then, I removed one of the rotten wooden pillars between the garage bays, and the rotted wooden crown above that. Looks much better. The problem is standing water underneath the base keeps rotting it faster than I could shim it so its tight and not blown away. I don't need a 10' wooden column landing on the cars, so into the "to cut" pile it went.

Oh yeah... I also moved a pool table to my basement :)

Very cool. I have a pool table in storage, I might have to sell it because there is no way I can get it into my basement, the door is too tight, as are the stairs leading down. The basement door is 22" wide, and the stairwell is the same. I'd have to hack the heck out of it in order to get my huge, oak table down there.

Tonight I hope to start drywalling my loft (which is the last big project before I can start the work on the studio!!!!)

Very cool !!!!! isn't progress wonderful?

Who me? I quit :) Yes, I quit :)

[cough] [cough] [cough] [cough] [cough]

Actually, I fell off the wagon, sadly, after 77 days. Which sucks.

Actually, I fell off the wagon, sadly, after 1 day. Which REALLY sucks. You did better than me frederic. What a bitch. No wonder I'm a nervous wreck. I'm on day 1 AGAIN.
Now where is the #$^%^&(*(&*(^$%#&%^%%&*)*_))_(_()&^%%$# HAMMER!!!!!

fitZ:   :( :o  :D

*sigh* I thought you had quit :) Then I saw you walking around with something in your mouth and thought... uh-oh :)

I'll have to post some pics of the progress at my place once I get rolling on it all.

This coming Wednesday will be day one for me. I've found that if I fall off the wagon on a particular day, its ineffective to start again the next day... but rather just smoke a lot less that day, then on the third day put them down.

The body doesn't like sudden, drastic changes in nicotine, caffiene, diet, and exercise. To do so makes one extremely irritable.

*sigh* I thought you had quit :) Then I saw you walking around with something in your mouth and thought... uh-oh :)

I did. 77 days. Not sure why I fell off the wagon. I hadn't been buying them or even finding butts in the trash or on the floor (yes, thats a sign of an addict, finding butts under sawdust and re-using them!).

I'll have to post some pics of the progress at my place once I get rolling on it all.

very much looking forward to it !!!!

Big brother is watching.....

I thought I'd seen a bit of something hanging out of your mouth one day, but I also thought you had mentioned that you quit, so I figured I was logged into the wrong webcam!!

Anyway, on today's video I've seen you spending a lot of time over there in the corner on your laptop. Tsskk....tsskk....spending all your time writing replies to your favorite BBS buddies does not a studio complete!! (Yes, honey, I'm working up here...be done soon)

Have FUN!!!~

Darryl.....

Yeah, I did a lot in this corner aside from futz around on this BBS. I also snagged a few items on skank-bay, bought some tools online, and responded to several work emails :) I also capture MP3's off online radio, so I can listen to the same programming without having to be signed on. Since the software I use saves each mp3 with the time/date as the filename, I have to change them once the next file starts so i remember what mp3 is what.

BTW, I use "Total Recorder", well worth the $30 if you like to capture anything that passes through your soundcard. It also defeats windows noises so all you get is music, no windows beeps and stuff, and AOL's irritating "YOu got mail".

Though, the cove is now sheetrocked and I have one small 5"x2" piece to shove at the edge once I rasp the plywood so it fits better than the last piece that simply disintegrated, and now i'm sheet rocking the vocal booth, piece by piece.

Once that is done, I sheet rock down the length of the room from the entry door, and all around the sofa cove where the webcam is right now. Unfortunately, the sheet rock is downstairs, and I need my assistant, er, wife to get home so she can help move some more sheets upstairs.

The last time I tried bringing it up here by myself... lets just say, it didn't arrive in less than three pieces. :(

Now off to Wendy's!
