Midi volume too low

Hi all,

I am very new to Home Recording and am a having a few problems. I have an M-Audio 88se with USB midi interface. I have it hooked up to a Windows 7 PC, running Mixcraft 5. It seems to recognized everything okay but the volume of the midi (88se) track when compared to the canned tracks is very very low. I am going to attribute it to a crappy sound card (the card is built into the motherboard), but I was wondering (before I go out an get a new card) if any one else has had this issue. I am using ASIO4ALL drivers for the sound. Any suggestions would be helpful. (Any suggestions for a new card to try will certainly be appreciated as well. )

Thanks

Bob.

You need to define "very very low" in precise terms such as dBFS. Maybe the canned tracks are too loud.

Typical newbie mistake. I opened my mouth before a read a little further. Midi only sends a signal, so the problem would not be low volume coming from the Midi interface (M-Audio 88se) but rather an adjustment in the recording software. Does this sound right?

Hi there, I see this was posted nearly two years ago but wondering if you ever resolved the issue, as I am having a similar issue with the volume being too quiet, and I have the gain turned up in the software (Cubase). Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you are exactly correct about this. If you have the signal going in to your computer, the midi device should be working just fine. You'll want to raise the volume on your mixer in whatever DAW you're using or lower the volume of the other tracks. Either that, or you may need to add some gain as a midi insert on its channel strip depending on the type of midi instrument you are using.
