MIDI split channels

Hi guys,
I have a question,

is there a way to split 8 MIDI channels in order to control them with a hardware mixer? I mean I would like to split 8 MIDI channels from the same module (mophatt) even with a 2 ins and 2 outs soundcard? (ewx 2496 - terratec)
Should I have a MIDI interface?

The only way that you can split 8 MIDI channels is if you record them separately, either 2 at a time (one panned fully left and the other fully right with left and right going into separate inputs on your recorder), or if the patch is a stereo (such as drums) record the MIDI on 2 channels for stereo.

You will need some sort of way of sync'ing between the MIDI player and the recorder... depending on the recorder, this can be done through the Midi Time Clock (MTC).

You guys are both a little confused.

Midi is not audio. A Midi cable has 16channels of MIDI, not audio. There is no need to split midi tracks because your software splits them into 16 channels for you.

I think you are wanting to have 8 seperate audio channels that you can run through your mixer? If that is the case it would depend on the number of outputs on your keyboard.

well, what I want to do is simply control different MIDI channels with an hardware gear, a digital mixer or a MIDI controller and this is possible, with a simple MIDI controller you can assign everypatch to a different channel.

That makes more sense. Many of the newer digital mixers like the Roland VM3100Pro will allow you to control midi volume with faders. There are a bunch of midi only controllers as well.
