Hypothetical Situation:
I want to hook up 2 to 3 MIDI controllers all to one master keyboard. Is that possible? Also, what kind of specifications would the master keyboard need to run 4 different setups, one for itself and one for each controller, and by setup I mean settings ie synth, upper/lower layer, etc etc. If it is possible, how would I go about setting it up? I take it I'd need some sort of MIDI splitter...I've heard of a splitter and a patchbay but I really don't know what either do...

Certainly it's possible. You just need a midi merge box to do it properly.

How many MIDI channels would the master keyboard have to be able to create?
Edit: Nevermind, the keyboard I have my eye on is more than capable.

Does anybody here have any paticular merge box they use that is reliable and hasn't given them any problems that has 3 or more MIDI In ports and at least 1 MIDI Out?

I have a 3X8 from MIDIman that works just fine.

I also have the MIDI Express from Mark Of The Unicorn.

Both are excellent.

MIDIman is now called M-Audio, am I right? If so I guess I'll look at the current version of the 3x8. Thanks.
