i dont know what i'm doin !
i needed a midi controller to manipulate vst's (plugs and synths) in ableton live 4 on my laptop
i had an old analogue joystick ... so i bought a converter to allow me to plug it into the usb port.
i then downloaded vmidijoy which "allows me to use joystick as a midi controller" cool ! the software recognizes the joystick and graphically represents all movements and buttons.
when i open "live" i cant seem to midi assign anything to the stick and sometimes get a message that my midi port is already in use.
i am using an rme laptop cardbus and multiface.
i know squat !
help

Does vmidijoy convert X-Y joystick movements into two or more midi controllers?

If so, you should be able to set it up in Live so that you use the joystick as a crossfader on the horizontal axis and a virtual volume fader on the vertical axis, and that's just one example.

The midi control conversion inside the joystick tracking software is the crucial factor, because Live is a very midi-savvy app in which you can assign MOST functions to midi controllers.

hi ssscientist ta for the reply.
i cant seem to assign it to anything in live at the moment.
i think the issue is to do with my midi port situation. i read a little about midi yoke and found it totally confusing however it seems like this is what i need . do u have any idea or advice on how to use such a program
thanks again
