I just got a midi keyboard, only thing is it only came with a usb wire (which powers it). The problem is my external hard drive and interface (presonus audiobox) use both the usb ports on my comp.

If I'm not recording using mics through my interface, can I just take the interface out of my computer and plug the keyboard in or will my recording program not read it? thanks!

I can't believe your computer only has 2 usb ports.

Yeah you can do that I think

At least two solutions, one already mentioned:

1 get a USB Hub (preferabbly powered so that you don't put too much demand on motherboard supply);

2 unplug interface and plug in keyboard when you want it.

I don't believe that this will work gecko, I know that with PT I cannot even open software without my interface plugged in, and if i unplug it then i get an error box and have to plug it back in. kinda a pain. maybe presonus is different though...

this will work, but you will have to switch the audio device to run off your internal sound card.
Not only is your audio box a way to get sound in..it's also how you get sound out.

or you could get some midi cables, and run them to your audio box and leave it all plugged in.
