Quick question on midi interfaces for computers. I know that a midi port can only be used by one software program at a time. I basically want to hook up one midi source to two different programs. If I used a 2x2 midi interface, could I hook up the output of my midi device to Input 1, send that signal in the software to Output 1, then connected Output 1 to Input 2 on the device and then used Input 2 in the other software program? Would that work? or is there a better way to do this?

Actually, It depends on the midi device. I use midex 8s and those are multiclient devices so I can use two programs at once with them without any problems (and I do)

Sure. Midiox is what you need (it is free) and it serves as a virtual patch bay where you can patch any midi input or inputs to any output along with filtering, remapping, and a whole boatload of brilliant midi utilities. Use it, love it.
