I am very new to midi and home recording. My Casio keyboard has midi so I wanted to record things like drums and strings from it. I have pro tools m powered and I can get the recording meter to read it but how do I get some actual audio from it. Do I need some kind of software too decipher the midi code or somthing?? And if so, which would you recommend? Thanks

Protools m powered has midi tracks built right in -- you don't need any other software 'too decipher the midi code'.

You will need two midi cables. Plug one from the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of the protools interface.

Then you need to find the page inside the Casio keyboard which has the 'local on/off' setting. This is very important because without it you will risk looping midi data, and setting the local control to 'off' will break the connection between the keyboard and the sounds inside effectively giving you a master keyboard and a sound module.

Now hook up the midi out of the protools interface to the midi in of the keyboard, bring up a fresh midi track and you should be all set.

If you have any trouble getting this to work feel free to post again.
