Slow Children Playing
I did some googling but am subject to content filtering here at work.

I am trying to find something that my old drummer used to call a "MIDI converter". It had 6 or 8 1/4" inputs which you plugged sensors into. When you applied signal to that input, it triggered a midi note that you could assign. The old drummer had these little stick-on pickups that he put on his acoustic bass drum, etc that would trigger the big digital thump from a sampling drum machine.

The Roland TMC-6 looks like the same thing, but it may be a little expensive. I am not looking for one that is all that nice.

Do you drummers know what I am talking about? Is there a more economic solution? I am looking to find something to trigger sampled sound effects. Touch sensitivity is not really an issue, but it would be great if you could assign each pad to a different midi channel and, of course, any note.

I thought it'd be a little closer to $150 than $250 like the roland.

Alesis DM5 should do it, sounds like you are not interested in the built in samples as much, but i am pretty sure it could be tweaked to just pass the midi signal. Might be limited to 4 output channels though.

You gey what you pay for, and Roland makes good reliable units. Bare in mind that most Pro Drum Modules have trigger inputs these days too, combining everything into one handy unit. Like any of the Roland V-Drum modules, or similar by Yamaha or Alesis (DM5: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DM5/ ). There are many more too.

Here is an older Roland PM-16 for sale in your price range: http://www.tegelermusic.com/blowouts.html
and another on EBAY: http://cgi.ebay.com/Roland-PM-16-Pa...ryZ41784QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you are handy, you can DIY here: http://www.paia.com/midibrn.htm

DM5 will do it for sure and any midi drum brain will work also. DM5 is 12 channels IIRC

Thanks, guys. Now I guess I need to start digging for some specs to make sure which one is the bomb diggety.
