Hi,

this is my intended setup

electric piano, microKORG hooked up to apple mac controlling various instruments.

I also intend on getting some sort of drum midi controller, so i can hit in drum loops/effects etc. I am looking at the AKAI MPD16, because it has 16 different pads to automate various things, and it is also relatively cheap (quite important as i am a bit short of cash!). Has anyone has experience using this? Would anyone suggest using something else?

Thanks!

Steve

There is a new Akai pad on the market called the MPD24. It takes the MPD16 to the next level. There's also the MAudio Trigger Finger which has only 16 sounds accessible from the pads at a single time.

The MPD16 is still a worthy contender --- just be sure to attach it well (velcro, double-stick duct tape, etc) to whatever you're going to rest it on to play it.

Hi,

Thanks for that. It looks really nice. I like the fact that it has way more controller faders/knobs than the previous MPD 16. a Definite selling point. It is almost twice the price though... but we will have to see.

Is there anything similar to this, but can be applied to using with a drum kit? So, bigger pad buttons which can be hit whilst playing the drums?

Thanks!

Steve

There's this --- LINK --- which might be a little flimsy to use on it's own but may combine well with your existing acoustic kit.

This --- LINK --- can trigger two midi sounds / notes / events at a time.

Or with this --- LINK --- or this --- LINK --- you get access to a whole kit's worth of sounds / loops with the understood risk that they're not the most durable pieces in your arsenal.
