Midi Control

ok I im kinda new to midi, as far is midi control goes.

So I have a PC , Firepod and an 01V, right now the firepod is connected to the 01V so I can control the faders and such in Cubase Remotely, but now I want to add my midi keyboard, how do I need to hook up the keyboard and still be able to use the 01V. I guess it would be something like using dual controlers??
would I go from the keyboard to the 'midi through' on the 01v ?? any help would be awesome.

This is a perfect example of why it's vewy vewy bad to crosspost. One Forum (in this case 'Cubase') gets part of your story while this one gets the other part. I've copied the last two entries from the other forum.

Sounds like your set up is a mess. the 01V is a digital mixer with insane routing, monitoring, i/o etc. Having an extra mixer and a firepod is kinda like adding another set of wheels to a car, u dont need them.

My advice: Sell the other mixer and firepod, get the adat expansion board and an RME hammerfall ADAT interface, learn how to use the 01V properly. You should always have 16 in/16 out directly from the 01V to the computer, not via the other sound interface

Well I would, but I use my 01V out too much to leave it set up as a permanent console. I use it out whenever I have a gig, I mic my drums up to the 01V, I control everything EQ, Gates, FX whatever, than send a stereo signal to the FOH guy....yes its different, but I like to be in control of how MY drums sound. So anyway, I figured it out, I can do what I was talking about, the only limitation is that If I want to send it out and re-record it, I can only do four tracks at once, unless I buy another Firepod. But it will do for now.....

If you don't want to take altitude909's good advice, take mine. You don't say what the 'other board' you own is, but if you're rich enough to get your hands on an 01V I'm sure it's of good quality.

Decide which is more important to you --- recording or playing live. Then act accordingly either by sticking with using the 01V with Cubase and using the other mixer to submix your drums, or continuing to use the 01V live as you have been.

As far as your question goes, your midi keyboard would be connected to the midi in of the 01V and it's internal settings set to merge the note info with the controller info the 01V puts out.

You obviously didn't read the articles on midi basics I linked you to, so here are the links again --- part one, part two and part three. Part three has the info you are looking for on continuous controllers, but read the first two anyway.

If it sounds like I'm impatient with you it's because I am. You post what's basically the same question you posted a few days ago and take up a bunch of my time answering you --- and it doesn't seem to sink in. You have a VERY powerful unit at your disposal in the 01V, and if you don't take any of altitude909's other advice at least take the part in which he advised you to learn how to fully use the capabilities of that mixer/interface/control surface to it's full capacity. In other words, read the fucking manual. Or find a users group on the web that will guide you. Or get a DVD manual from Yamaha or a third party vendor.

thanks for the help ssscientist, I actually did read the first two articles, you didnt include third, unless I missed it the first time. I am somewhat comfortable with most of the info on the 2 pages. I wasnt sure as far routing and all that, using midi merge boxes or whatever. I did a bunch of searching, but seemed to only find dated material, I didnt know if maybe there was new technology out there.

I dont think I meant to double post, they were two SEPERATE questions, allthough somewhat similar. But I figured it out anyways. I look forward to learning here....
