Hi Guys.
Iam new to midi and i have a question and i want to enlighten me.
I use expand2(Synth of pro tools) which has 4 midi ports.
I have 2 midi controllers,arturia factory experience & m-audio's key rig.
I want to connect these 2 midi controllers in 2 different ports of xpand
so i can be able to play simultaneously 2 different sounds from 1 vst synth.
So here what i do
I create 2midi tracks and 1 aux.
In the aux track i put the xpand and i adjust the first input port to 1 and the
2nd input port to 2.
Then i connect my midi keyboards with a usb cable to the computer.
Then i adjust the 1st midi channel at pro tolls to receive signal from the
Keyrig to send signal to the xpand channel 1.
I also adjust the 2nd midi channel to receive signal from the analog factory experience and to send signal to the xpand channel 2
What am i doing wrong?
All i manage is to play the same sounds from my midi controllers according to the channel that is selected at pro tools.
But when i select the 2nd midi channel iam able to play the 2nd sound
but again both of my keyboards play the same sound

You need to open another soft synth for the second sound if you want control via another MIDI port.

Each soft synth iteration can only respond to one MIDI channel at a time for what you are trying to do.

yeah, MIDI omni.......... that's great if you want to play the same sound from any controller.

Different sounds via different controllers means more soft synths.

First of all i'd like to thank you about you reply.
I was confused cause i thought that if the synths have
4 different ports i could assign each port to a controller.
Apparently this can't be done.
So the philosophy of the multiple ports in a synth is that
each port of the synth can be selected only one at a time.
Thus from a midi controller i can control each sound of the 4 ports
one at a time.
