hello. i'd like to get a new rack reverb for my project studio (now i have an mpx-100...i'd like to step it up a bit). i'm looking at the mpx-550, the tc m-one, and anything else in that $400-$600 range (new or used). here is what is important to me:

-i'm only interested in reverbs, and perhaps some delays...but mostly reverbs.
-it's important that the unit has xlr in and outs, and be very transparent (except for the effect, of course). i've spent a lot of money on high quality mics, preamps, and compressors, and i don't want the last step in the chain (the reverb) to mess with that.

so can anyone recommend any reverb units in that price range that will perfrom well in those two catagories?

thanks so much,
jon.

Add the TC Electronics M2000 to your list, about $700 new, $500 used. If you can swing it, look for a used TC Electronics M3000, incredible additional verbs over the M2000, about $900 or so used.

I'll second the TC, and toss in a vote for the Kurzweil Rumour.

T.C.'s M300 is awesome and has alot of the exact verbs in the M2000 and M3000. Only problem is that the A/D, D/A converters suck. Use SPDIF on this unit...But for $300 it shines like none other.

ooh...the Kurzweil Rumour, there's one i didn't think of. how does that stack up against the mpx550 or m-one xl? it's certainly in my price range.

m-onexl...don't know

mpx 500... I have one. I don't know about other effects, but the reverbs are definitely nicer than the mpx500 IMO. I'd like to listen to the TC and Kurzweil side-by-side. I'm getting a new reverb myself and have pretty much narrowed it down to these two.

In that price range I think the Kurzweil Rumour is *by far* the best choice. Not really close in my opinion.

The $400-600 price range is not mid-level, it's still firmly in the budget category. Mid level reverbs are more like the TC M3000, Lexicon PCM-91, Kurzweil KSP8, that area. High end is the TC6000, Lexicon 960, Eventide Orville and others.

Incidentally, I'd put the Rumour a lot closer to the M3000/PCM-91 quality range than the MPX-550/M-One range. That's based on direct experience. I still like my PCM-91 and M3000, but the Rumour is basically playing in the same ballpark. The others, like the M300/MPX-550 aren't in the same ballpark.

I had a Rumour but had to sell it for the cash. It was fabulous. I highly recommend it.

Lexicon MPX-500. Good range of usable and controllable sounds. The MPX-550 is better again, and is a later version.
