mics for toms...need some advice please

I bought a third CAD M179 for tom use, incredible open sound and doesn't get all boxy / closed up like most dynamic mics do in the low/mids.

You must engage the pad.

Never found the pad very engaging. I have used, with success, the 179 in fig 8 between two toms and it worked great. Pearl Master set with a great drummer really helped.

I've been hearing about guys using E609's lately. I wish for a couple more to give it a try.
