I have an AKG Perception 200 that i plan to use in conjunction with a Samson Co2 Pencil Condenser as overheads on drums. (using the glyn john's method)
The mic has two switches on it, one for bass roll off, and one is a preattenuation pad.
i'm new to using a mic with these options, and want to make sure i'm reading this right...
If i use the mic in a close mic-ing setup, then i may want to switch the bass rolloff on, and/or use the preattenuation pad to reduce distortion and excessive low bass frequencies?
so technically (and i'm sure i'll need to play around with it) i should leave the mic on its regular settings for an overhead, as it will be a few feet away from any main source i'm trying to capture?
my followup question would be this: one being a large and one being a small diaphram condenser, (another situation i'll probably have to toy with)
what side would each mic work better on do u think? the large over the snare, and the pencil to the right-near the floor tom, or vice-versa?
i'm sure its a mundane question...but just wondering if anyone else has tried this setup (i do have a Samson Co1 large diaphram i can try also instead of the pencil, but haven't been too happy with the sounds i'm getting out of that 'super inexpensive' mic..hahaa)
thanks for reading and your advice!!!!!
