microphone related, DUH!

hi, i just bought 2 behringer ecm8000's and i hooked them into my phantom power and then directly into my roland vs-890hd. i had to turn the trim up ALL the way to get a really quiet sound. i've come to the assumption that'll i'll need a mic pre. what do you guys think?

Unless I'm mistaken, the 890 doesn't have phantom power. What are you using to supply power to your 8000s? Either way, The roland units have notoriously horrible mic pres built ins--you're much better off getting a mic pre. Something like the Art dual mp or behringer would work for you.

i have a rolls pb223. after i posted last night, my mics decided to work, i must've been doing something wrong. i'm getting a really strong signal now so i'd have to disagree with the comment about the roland's pres. it sounds great. thanks for the replies.
