Microphone help

not sure this is the right place.. move if its not cheers!

im using an edirol preamp and i wanted to record and playback at the same time. basically using the computer as an amp.. But i have tried all the settings and it wont seem to make any noise from the mic when i have the volume up

ive no idea what to try, just hoping someone would have an answer

start up your recording software (Cubase, Sonar, ProTools, etc), create a track for that input, and enable monitoring for that track.

or, that interface may have a "direct monitor" feature where you don't need a computer on at all.

perhaps you ought to do some reading?
