Has anyone used the following microphones to record drums, and what do you think of them?
Sennheiser MD 421 and MD 441
Beyer M88

I am thinking of using the MD 441 as an overhead, using the treble boost option on the mic. And using the M88 on the kick. I might use the 421 on the snare, or not at all if the overhead picks up well. My goal is to pick up the kit with 2 mics.
Feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

441,M88,421-All great mics that I used a lot on various kits, but not having been restricted to just 2 mics it does make things interesting. The 441 I've used on both snare and hi-hats with good results. The 421 on toms and kick with excellent results(in fact definitely my favourite tom mic). The M88 is a classic and always seems to work on kick.So...if it's down to 2 mics I'd opt for 441 as overhead and M88 for kick.If you see a cheap AKG451 this would work better as an overhead, but the 441 should be OK.There's a good selection of Sennheiser condensor mics that go real cheap 2nd hand. They are generally battery or phantom powered and work just fine.
