Ok, so when my band went into the studio, in order to get a "heavy' sound, we doubled the guitar tracks and then panned one to each side. I'm pretty sure a lot of poeple hear know the technique. Anyways, I was wondering, if you used two different mics, would it have the same effect to get the same heavy sound and not have to record the same track twice? My reason isn't necessarily for a heavy sound, but cause i want to try panning an acoustic guitar, and if the strumming isn't exactly the same, it's brutal. Suggestions?

no you wont get the same sound. for when u record it twice it play it slitgtly diff. so it sounds like 2 guitars instead of one

Yeah, but the problem with acoustic guitars is if the strumming is off just a little bit then it sounds like crap, ya know?

Recording an acoustic with 2 mic's - one at the neck/body joint and the other at the bridge - then panning the mic's hard L and R will give a very wide sound. But it's a different sound than you get tracking the same part twice.

yes that is true, thats same with anything. when i say differencet i dont mean off time i just mean in aditude wish like the hardness of your strumps will range as you play on its own and wheather you are on a up or down stroke
