hi,

will my LDC mic (NT1-A) break if i use it to mic up the bass drum (ie, put it directly in front of the bass drum)?

i was going to feed it up to either a mixer or my br1180cd.

thanks

use a windscreen.....you should be ok.......

if you wanna be sure, get someone to hit the kick real hard and measure it with a SPL meter.....

thanks for that!

from the manual, NT1-A has a max SPL level of 137 dB??? DOes that mean anything more than 137 dB will damage the diaphram?

i don't have an SPL meter.... so... would u know what the average SPL range is when reading directly in front of the bass drum??

thanks
Regards

VERY loud sources can stretch the diaphram. That being said I mic kicks with LDCs all the time. I'll put a dynamic inside the kick and the LDC out in front of the kit about 3'.

A good rule of thumb... 127 is the 'threshold of feeling' ["feeling" equals 'hurts like a motherfucker'!!]... 140 is the 'threshold of pain' [your eyes "go white", you loose equilibrium]... while transient signals [like a drum hit] will have less of an effect the fact of the matter is that if it hurts you're gonna know it.

Yep - me too. Haven't had to replace a diaphragm yet.

damn, I dont need a SPL meter, I can just use my wifes head.....if she makes that face like I hit the wrong hole, its too loud:eek: :D :) :p

lol. That's going down as one of the greatest posts ever.

I'll have to try that.

Why spend $40 on an SPL meter. Gidge, you're a visionary.:D
