hey so yeah. i am pretty much new to recording and i was curious about micing drums for my friend... i have a fostex mr 8 and it has one mic input on it...but i wanted to use various mic's on his kit...how can i get 3 or 4 mics setup on my recorder? do i need something extra to input all the mics into it then run that into the recorder or what? if you could help that would be greatly appreciated...thanks later

you could get a yamaha mg mixer and use it as a submixer for a number of mics into line input on the mr8 assuming the mr8 has line inputs.
frankly an easier way is to use a computer to record lots of tracks.
you can get 40 to 100 plus on moderrn athlon pc's.
but thats for another day.
search underr my name on this bbs for more info.

I love this server... I had almost this exact suggestion being submitted and the server said it was too busy so i just said screw it.

Anyway, yes, yamaha mg mixer would be your best bet.

i checked the specs on your mr8 . i can believe it. it seems there is no proper
stereo line input on it you can record. so it looks like a submixer is out
of the picture. seems like your stuck.sorry.
you might like to clarify the no line input point with fostex.
if you want a better computer based solution just ask.

MR8 stereo input

Actually.. It does support stereo input

Just plug the left output of the mixer into Input A for the MR8, and Plug the right output of the mixer into Input B. Then arm track 5/6 and record. It'll pull in the stereo track.
