mics i have:

1 shure sm58 beta
2 shure sm58's
1 shure bg 1.1

amps:

marshall jcm 900 into a jcm 900 4x12 cab (guitar)
hartke ha4000 into a 15" peavey cab (bass)

my question:

what is the best way to mic these amps?? these will be recorded at different times so i can use all the mics each time... please help!! thx!

take the ball of the 58 and mic it up against the grill....maybe use the beta 58 also, but pulled a bit back , maybe 18 inches, maybe farther.....blend the two....

Damn, didnt even see that you are recording bass....Alot of people like to record bass direct or a blend of direct and a mic'ed cabinet.....

Just put the bass through your mic preamp. Probly the best way to go, especially if you have a blue tube!

Right on dude!

Bass through Bluetube Rocks!!!
That little smooth tube sound is greeeeaaaaat!

But GC, try anything you can till you get bored. Since there are no "rights" or "wrongs" play with them a bit till you hear something you like...
You can even use the line out from your guitar amp (only with the guitar) to the input of the bass amp and mic the two to get powerful bass sound on your guitar. Also can get muddy, get a balance.
