Mic'ing a drum kit through a powered mixer... danger???

im buying a drum mic kit tommorow and i already have a yamaha all-in-one mixer and amp. it has phantom power to run the mic's, but is there anything i need to know before i start trying to plug it into my mbox? will it fry anything? do i use speaker cable? where do i plug it in? so many questions... sorry, thanks in advance!

no worries on blowing up anything.

Just set up the mic's on each drum, and 2 over the crash cymbal's, and 1 inside the kick, or however you decide to mic your set, and have it all run through your mixer, to [your computer?] or wherever your running it to.

Just make sure all the levels aren't clipping, and depending on your mic's, you're gona have a nice drum sound

I use a beta 52 a kick mic along with a mxl990 for the kick, i use 3 samson tom mic's, a samson snare mic, [occasionally a sm 57 under the snare, phased out], 2 sm 57's over the crash cymbals, a sm 57 depending on the music near the acents or the high hat.

and i've gotten some amazing sounds. I couldn't beleive it.

I also run the snare mic through my effect processor, and give it slight reverb, full compression, and sound enhancment, and it's amazing. And i also compress the double bass/ single bass and use sound enhancement.

k thanks, i was just worried a powered mixer would have problems, i heard you werent supposed to turn them on unless its powering something?

i have a yamaha emx powered mixer and it doesnt have a proper output that works

i have no idea how to run a mic'ed drum through a powered mixer.

it has speaker outputs that have power running through them i think thats dangerous to run a chord through to the mbox.

in the front it has a red and white (L and R) output that hooks up to my s/pdf input and i checked the spdf box in pro tools and i got 10 tens static compared to 1 time drum kit.

it also has quarter inch L and R outputs that i plugged into the mbox and had the same results.

is it possible that the emx powered mixers wont get a record signal out?

Whatever you do, DO NOT send the mixer's powered outputs to your MBox.

Also, connecting your RCA outputs to your SPDIF input will not work (as it seems you discovered). Don't confuse the type of connector with the type of signal. RCA are an unbalanced pair of analog signals. SPDIF is stereo digital signal on a single jack.
