What is the best possible mic for vocals I can get for under 100 Dollars. Thanks Matt

For under $100 I like the sm58. But for recording I'd save $30 and get the v67 that Gidge pointed you to. This is for recording isn't it? If its live go with the 58.

I noticed Mars' lower price on the V67 last night and damn near ordered one. Does anybody know how long this sale will last?

BTW, I've heard vocals done with this mic that sound very nice to me:

CAD M-37 $100

$129 doesn't get you a preamp for the Marshall. I'd go with the SM 57 if you don't have a pre.

I agree, for under 100 go with the 58, and if you can stretch it go with the marshall.

Don't forget the 57

If you're looking at a 58, depending on your voice, you might want to consider a 57 instead. AND you can use it for a lot of other stuff too, both now and later, when you can afford a better vocal mic. Of course it depends entirely on the voice it's being used for.

matt, another nice dynamic mike is the Sennheiser e835.
It has a clearer tone than the sm57 or 58, although you may prefer
the "Shure" sound for rock or blues.....

At marsmusic.com there are a few marshal mics that are under $100. I would think that most of those would be better for vocals than the sm57. I don't understand why people who own a 57 would recommend them for vocals. For electric guitar amps, they're nearly unbeatable (try a c1000 though, if you haven't already, especially for clean tones), for drums they're fine, but for vocals... almost any condensor mic is preferable imho.

Both the V57 and the V63 are available from Mars for $79. If you're just doing vocals I would recommend you look into one of those, or maybe wait for the Studio Projects B series to come out. I haven't used any of those mics personally, but I don't think that you could go too wrong for the price. In any case, they're going to capture vocals more accurately than a 57. The high end on a 57 is really inadequate for most vox, in my opinion, although some people have claimed to get good results with them. I guess I just really, really don't like the 57 for vocals. It's hard for me to imagine that those Marshalls or the SP b series could be any worse.
