Check out Tama. Nice heavy hardware.

Yup. They're just about all I'll buy. Tough as nails and only about twice the price of cheap junk that barely works at all.

My feelings exactly. The extra wieght is a plus, boom clutch actually works, and the feet stay put when you fold up to carry.

Duct tape and a broom :D are a consideration..... No, go with Tama. It's nice stuff, Dave.

I got ten boom mic stands from Musicians Friend for $100. They work just fine IMO. You read correctly, TEN boom stands for $100. Free shipping. It's a steal if you happen to need ten stands like I did.

Bad idea, you'll regret this in a year at most. Maybe if he reads carefully on both stands he'll wonder WHY these cost about 5 times as much. Sorry dude but if you want them to last and work right your gonna have to spend some cash. K&M stands are also supposed to be very good.

hmm...50 bucks for a tama is a bit too much for me..i just spent 400 on the mic..im kinda broke...i just want it easy to use and on the cheaper side...iv heard a lot of people dont like the tripod base..any opinions?

On Stage SB96+ (plus). Under $100, a boom clutch with teeth, 4 feet with lockable wheels, boom extends to 89", over 11 feet vertical, and will hold up a Solidtube or whatever you got. Great for orchestral or stageplay work. I've had a pair for four years, and they see most of the heavy work, along with a pair of kick drum stands.

They absolutely destroy tripod stands, and are a lot less than any comparable competition I've seen. The only downside is they do have a big footprint.-Richie

If you're on a budget the On-Stage Stands tripod boom stand is not a bad deal. They are affordable, and I've had about 10 in my studio that we've used for years, and they have yet to break. I've had similar stands by other manufacturers that absolutely sucked. No, the OSS stand is not going to compare to a $100+ stand, but it kicks a*# for the money, and it will be around for a while. It's all about value. I've done the sandbag thing and also hung weights from the boom and those techniques work great. You can even get a custom weight that fits over the boom.

who needs a stand when you can get an unpaid intern to hold it for you?

You just spent $400 on a mic. How bad would you feel if it went crashing to the floor because it was on a cheap boom stand?

I own several of the on-stage stands and they are ok for light work. However, you have to be really careful to position the boom over one of the legs and not bump the stand. They really aren't that stable. I imagine they would wear out quickly if used in a busy studio.

haha i didnt even think about that..your right..imma have to go for the tama..just wait till next pay check...thanks for the feedback

I ordered a stand last week from Musicians Friend. Oh man, it came with plastic fittings in certain crucial areas requiring metal. We did not have time to send it back to get a new one so my partner custom machined a new part for the defective plastic one.

have you seen the latch lake stuff ?? it's about the best thing you could ever hope to find in a stand.

i don't know if they sell boom arms separately but i can tell you they're worth it.

i've seen them in action, and they're very impressive.

good luck
