I just bought a C-1 Condesender Microphone, mic cable, Behringer XENYX 502 mixer, U-Control UCA202 Usb connecter and cables to connect the Usb connecter to my mixer.
I wish to record, but i do not know how to set it up can someone hlep me please??

connect the microphone to the input on your mixer. be sure to enable 48V phantom power on your mixer or your microphone wont work properly. now connect the output of your mixer to the usb connector using the cables you bought. now plug the usb connector into your computer using a usb port.

you should be set now. if you have any more questions feel free to ask :D

Be sure and load the drivers for the USB device if you need them...and get some recording software...theres some free stuff on the net like Reaper.

and audacity.

i keep hearing about reaper but ive never tried it.

if it hasnt already been done i kinda wanna make a thread for free software sites and downloads. i think that would do alot of people alot of good.

Alright i have that and my mic light is on. and everythings conncted but when i go to record, it only picks up whats on my computer? How do i make it so i can record threw the mic and not what the computer is playing.?

i actually think its just plug and play. i looked up the specs and here they are:
* For Mac or Windows
* No setup or special drivers needed
* Downloadable software package for recording and editing

so just plug it in and set it as the default audio input device and you should be good to go.

hope ive been some help :D

I wonder if the downloadable software is a free version of that energy stuff they have out?..I wonder if he will have to pay for it...or to unlock alot of stuff like effects and extra tracks.

well it seems that you have the output of your USB device going back into one of the channels on your mixer which is then going back into the usb device and its creating a big loop.

heres what your going to want to do

choice A: you have two black rectangle buttons right above the "phones" knob.
one says "cd/tape to mix" and the other says "cd/tape to phones". the "cd/tape to phones" should be pushed in and the "cd/tape to mix" should be out.
your then going to want to either plug your speakers or headphones into the headphone input jack on your mixer.

or choice B: run the output on your usb device straight to your speakers and/or headphone distribution device.

i hope ive been some help :D

Thank you, i have my headphones pluggged into my USB device now, i am hearing out of them, but now it still wont pick up what i say into the mic, how do i make it so i can record with the mic

I will start off by saying, read all the manuals again and make sure you have connected everything as they say and have all the selector switches on the mixer set right. I am not trying to be funny Behringer have pretty good simple manuals (and I write manuals in my non-music life for industrial equipment).

Next check this, taken from the Behringer manual for the UCA202 OFF/ON MONITOR –
With the MONITOR switch OFF,
the headphone output receives the signal from the com-
puter over the USB port (same as the RCA output jacks).
With the MONITOR switch ON, the headphones receive the signal connected to the RCA INPUT jacks.

Just to reinforce that the UCA202 does not need drivers and uses the standard Windows or Mac sound control screen to control it once selected by that screen.

Ok Now if all this is right the next thing you have to do is tell the software where the signal is coming from to be recorded. I still have not figured out from the post what you are using? However usually you have to select this at the head of the track, sometimes right click, or in the software options menu.

I use UCA's all the time to replace standard lap top sound for live demos and playing music through systems, they work fine.

Hope this was of some help

Cheers

If all else fails...take it back...Behringer has a high return rate for defective product...I know...I live close to the Musicians friend distribution center and the ammount of Behringer product in the returns outlet is 2:1 to all other brands combined...to be clear it makes 66% of the total stores inventory.

M-Audio has a $69 piece similer to that...much better line of products.

I have never had a defective UCA202 and I have 3, for different lap tops (one for each bag) and have bought countless for friends to use as it's a very useful device.

Darrin does not like Behringer and believes it's all crap and it's sounding like a cracked record. Come on Darrin give it a rest. This guy is just trying to sort out his 1st set up, this will be fine for what he wants to do.

You will sort it out, going back to my 1st computer recording set up my head was spinning with trying to get it to work, A lot of years down the track I just now know where to look.

It really is cheaper to buy quality once than buy junk then quality...just use the search funtion here...there wont be any positive threads on that brand name...hundreds of negitive ones...you can get lucky and get something that isnt broken...but it is just better to steer clear of them.

Darrin,

Some people just want a cheap sound card to do some demo stuff and to get started, retail for the UCA202 in the USA is $44.95 street price will be $40.

I don't use mine in my studio, I just use it at gigs for demos or playing break music, or recording rehearsals at a location when I can't be bothered taking a larger set up. For song ideas and demos it is fine.

I am sure that when it stops working at some point or when a better sound card is bought when funds permit the person is not going to say "OH NO I wasted my $40 on this Behringer sound card instead of spending $500 straight off"

Darrin please stay off the questions and answers with your Behringer Hate and just run your own "I Hate Behringer" thread. As this is no help to someone trying to solve a problem.

Cheers

Alan.

Well please dont help if you dont see the OP words...there is a high chance he has a non working product...ergo he can listen but no input...now if you do have several of these working units you might be able to coach him on what in his settings would get this unit to work properly...which gives him a choice...get another one or step up a bit.

True I dont like Behringer at all...issues with everything I bought of thiers...worthless on the used market...not a smart purchase.

If you read his...the input isnt working...the best way to help him is to tell him to take it back and get another at least...letting him know he has a choice wont hurt him either

actually thoroski sent me an IM asking me for some help. turns out that he just needed to turn his gain level up which on his board was called "trim" which would have confused any of us.

im not here to argue and usually darrin and i see eye to eye on almost everything (i know i havent been here long but im really trying to participate and help) but behringer products really arent that bad... i have a "budget" studio and alot of my stuff is behringer... such as my head phone amp, mixer, compressor and gate. i also have a v-amp which i will admit the amp settings on it really suck but for what i use it for (effects) it really gets me by.

i think we should keep in mind that while behringer products are certainly not professional by any means, they do their job like their supposed to which to some people may be absolute crap lol, but us newbs have to start somewhere.
:)

and thoroski like i said have fun with your new gear and if you have any more questions just IM me.
