MIC Repair Help Needed

Hi, I am a noobie here and hope I am in the right place.

I have a dead Behringer ECM 8000. Bot it a couple years ago and never used it . Pulled it off the shelf and nada. I gently pulled the XLR connector out and attached to it was the preamp circuit board. Attached to the circuit board was a black wire attached to nothing at all. No wonder it did not work.

Now the problem is getting to the ECM to solder up the signal wire. But I do not know how to get the tip (and ECM) off the body of the MIC. Anybody autopsied one of these guys? Anybody ever modify one? Any ideas how to get it apart?

Thanks for a great forum and any help you can give. :thumbs up:

Hey, thanks I will save it.

I solved my problem by doing the following:

1. Take a couple small blocks of hardwood and slip a piece of match book cover in between them.
2. clamp them tightly together and drill a hole the dia of the mic tip vertically through the cardboard and wood block's interface.
3. Put the tip into the resultant channels and tighten in a vice.
4. The tip is now firmly held and not damaged at all.
5. Slowly twist and pull the mic shaft off the tip. It is held in by that pliable glue the manufacturers use.
6. Re soldered the wires
7. Put the cap back on with some thread lock blue for glue. Done.
