Yea but i wouldn't use the mixer, just the preamps. No sense in paying 700 canadian for 4 channels of mackie pre's when some of the money is just going into the mixing board part i won't use. I would only use it for controlling the volume of monitoring speakers and headphones.
And i'm planning on getting some passive monitors and an amp to do the headphone/volume stuff.
Ive used the 1202 for quite a few months, i rented it 3 times, for a month at a time. It was great, but i just bypassed the eq and everything from the sends, and just used the preamps. And i've been told the DMP3 is on par with the mackie preamps, if not better. But who knows? If you add up the price of 2 dmp3's, it's approximatly the same price as a new mackie 1202. That way you have 4 preamps either way, but with the mackie you get the mixing board functions as well. BUT the dmp3 i think has more control over the preamps functions, considering that's all it does. I think it has the hi gain and low gain settings as well, which act as a sort of virtual pad.
But hey who knows. I was wanting to get maybe the DMP3 or some other outboard preamps, and have them running into my sound card, and use a sepearte amp and passive speakers. But if i got a mackie i'd just get actives and control the volume from the mixing board.
Anyone else have an opinion on the DMP3 pre's versus the Mackie Pre's? What are some other good stand alone pre's around the same price range that would be better than the mackie or dmp3?
