If I already own a Joemeek threeq and use it with an audio technica 3035 would it be worth it for me to sell the threeq and buy a twin q if I was also going to upgrade to a Shure KSM44...how much of a difference would there be if I just got the new Mic and hung on to my threeq. Or for a comparable price are there any Mic Pre's that would suite this microphone better. I would also be using it with sm57's and possible an sm81, and I would be mic-ing male vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar cab, bass, live strings, drum kit, on pretty singer songwriter moderate rock kinda stuff. Thanks a lot.

MAN! Thats a lot of questions in a small space. The KSM44 you asked about is as versatile a mic as is made....period.With the patterns and its lack(its not a bad thing) of aggressive tone, you can reproduce any source with it accurately. This doesnt mean it doesnt have a 'sound' its just sweet and complete throughout the entire sonic range and regardless of the mic pre it is a much better sounding mic than the 3035.That being said, the AT is not a bad thing either and will be something you should hold onto simply to fill out a mic locker with something that has a bit different sound. The Joe Meek stuff is fine. Its a bit agressive if driven hard but should work well for your application. If I was to get another pre for what you've descibed as your situation, I would look to a Sebatron or something of that nature as a 'different' type of sound from the Meek.
