I've had great success with Digimax 96K

Drums, guitars, vocals all sound very good and great improvement over my DAW (Digi).. I just got a meeks OneQ and hope to compare it..

Newbie here!

Im doing or buying the pieces of equipment i need in order to have a decent Home/Basement Studio. I'm doing this based on the ability of me using the piece right when i buy it, so i went and bought an M-Audio Firewire Solo and a Studio Projects B1 Condenser, (you see I can mess with this stuff NOW). Now, I don't have any monitors so that's probably my next buy. After that i have no idea! I would be recording a young female vox (my daughter) and me. The music style is spanish reggae, more like dancehall and maybe hip hop now and again. I know the Firewire Solo has a pre-amp right?

But after I buy the monitors would it be wise to get a separate piece of hardware to take care of that? I mostly will be recording vocals, since for now i'm not good making the instrumentals and I have several people that are, that would facilitate them for me exclusively. Tell me what you think should be my next buy!

RE: My choices

I have a Universal Audio M-610 tube preamp that sounds cool for that "thick and gooey" sound. Then there is a FMR stereo RNMP & RNC combination in my racks (for a sweeter tone) and then finally the Great River ME-1NVs (two of these in my case) and I like these a LOT!!! However, I think the Grace 101 is a really nice piece if you don't want to add any color to the recorded tracks-- I'd buy one in a heartbeat! :)

Did you by chance check out the SP828? No one seems to use one. My assumption is that homerec'rs in that range have similar options that offer A/D conversion in the same box.

I have the 828 as well as the VTB-1, and I think they are worlds apart. The 828 is clean and detailed and makes the VTB-1 sound muddy in comparison, IMO.

Big fan of the SP828 here, though I hope that SP makes the next one feel a little more sturdy in build quality than the 828. I'd pay a few more bucks for that.
