Mic pre around $1000. Hrm, didn't ever think I'd post one of these.

Hm. I'll check with guitar center about that one...

. have a look at the trident s20. its like 999$ for 2 channels.

I actually tried one of these out and liked it, but I'm looking for more of a colored pre instead of a clean pre.

I'm pretty sure they do, but aren't most like $1500 or more?

Oh yea. Ask them if they have a "blem" on that one. :D

In that event, I'd say the Universal Audio M-610 would be the one. I heard that one in a mic pre shootout last year, and I thought it sounded a lot like the DW Fearn ... which is a good thing. Very colorful when you drive it.

A local GC has one of these, I'll have to stop by and take a listen. From what I hear, people either hate them or love them.

If a great river is available to me then I will gladly pick it up. I had an mp2-nv for a while before I had to sell it becuase I'm poor. Haha.

I love mine - and my Peavy VMP-2 ;)

Grrrr. I got the better end of the deal, though! Dan from Great River sent me a coffee mug!

+1 on the Chamelon Labs 7602 - it's a great pre for the money. Just the pre/di section is worth the price of admission. Once you add in the EQ, it's a tremendous price/performance ratio.

I've owned the A-designs MP-2 and part of me regrets selling it, though I needed to at the time. The pre was big and heavy and that characteristic was reflected in the sound. KILLER DI. It sounded great on a lot of things, but I often had trouble stacking a lot of tracks through it.

Great River is an awesome company, and I totally recommend their products.

That's another thing I need to look out for. I'll be using this pre for guitars, bass, vox, anything past drums will be ran through it. I needs to be able to stack without getting fuzzy or mushy, if possible.

Anybody else? I think I'm going to push it and go for a 2 channel pre for around $1500. Right now I'm looking at 2x Chamelon Labs 7602...

GR is good
Chameleon sounds amazing. Not as smooth as the GR.
2-610 is also a great reccomendation.

I would build two of the N72 seventh circle preamp kits for that money. They are one of the best values in a top notch sound. But you need soldering skills.

...7602s are a great value...now these pres get great press, but nobody seems to have "hands-on" experience with them...said to be some of the best sounding "Neve-type" pres available...does anybody know anything more about them?...

I did a head to head shoot out with a Neve 1073 and the Chameleon. While the 7602 was not as smooth on the high end, it was pretty amazing for the money. I would not go as far as to say they were the best sounding Neve type pres available however. I think the GR and the new Rupert Neve 5012 are better, but of course more money. In the under $1000 range I think you can't do any better than the Chameleon for that type of sound.

My buddy has a 7602 and he loves it. I haven't heard it myself though.

Wellll, I picked up 2 7602s and a power supply today. I'll be trying them out in about a week. Can't wait.

I'm in a similiar situation with being limited to GC purchases with the credit. The pre's that I have been coveting over there are:

Grace 101 - clean, solid state, great all arounder
Summit 2BA-221 - highly flexible, solid state - tube mix
