Mic Noise is killing me!

I am completely setup. I've got a Waveterminal 192M with the midi expansion. I have M-Audio's Audio Buddy for my Mic. I have a Marshall MXL-2003 Mic. My problem is that when I am recording with the mic, I get an ungodly amount of noise. My main question is this, WHERE IS IT COMING FROM!!!!? The noise I get mainly just sounds like interference from something, but I can't figure out from where. I've tried turning everything in the room off, but nothing seems to work. Is there something that I'm missing?

I've ruled out my Audio buddy and the patch cord from there to my Waveterminal. I can record fine with that. The only thing place where I have issues is either with my mic or the chord between the mic and the Audio Buddy. Is there a way to tell which one is the issue? Are certain mic cables better for recording than others? I just grabbed a spare mic chord from church, so it can't be a very good chord. Can the chord cause the garbly noise?

Any help would be incredibly appreciated. This is quite a frustrating issue. You guys are the ones that helped me get setup about 6 months ago or so, I know you are the ones who can help me now. Thanks.

Unshielded chords can definitely add a bunch of unwanted noise. you may want to return the church's equipment and go out and buy a good shielded chord or you will wish you had....

So is there anything to look for in a Mic cable? What price range should I look for? Thanks for the responses.

Mainly, you want a new one from a company that you have heard of. Proco, monster,etc... Anything of quality will be good. A proco 20' mic cable at Sweetwater is under $17.00
