Hey!
i've decided to begin this long trip into the homerecording world :D
my budget is 250-300€.

For now i think i'm only gonna buy a mic and an interface (already got a powerful laptop and i think that as SW i'm gonna use the one in bundle with the interface for the first time).

i study singing, so that's the area where i'll most record (also if i play the piano and maybe i can record some other instruments from friends).

anyway, i was thinking at:

Mic: AKG 120 perception
Interface: (i'd go for a usb one). i found 2 i'm interested in: audiobox usb presonus, or the steinberg CI2

what do u think about this configurations? is it good to start?
should i also buy a spider suspension and a pop screen for the mic?

thanks! :)

Yes. I think this is pretty solid. I have a Presonus Firebox (I think it's the same as the USB version spec-wise) that I just love, and I use it with an older AKG C414. It's fantastic. That AKG 120 should do just fine.

Yes, you should get at least a pop screen, but get the spider suspension if you can as well. It just cuts down on so many re-takes due to small vibrations making their way in.

Hey Alessandro how are you?
I see that you put Italy in your personal information.

Did you get a hold of fala? He is in university as well!

You should take a look at the perception 220 it has low roll off and a db pad. ;)
And I'm sure that it comes in a case with a spider and a wind screen but no pop filter.

thanks guys for the answers :)

my doubt is about the interface...i don't know what to buy between the presonus usb audiobox or the Steinberg CI2.
The steinberg seems to have some more features, and it comes with a light version of cubase (and has a phantom button for the mic).
the presonus comes at 159€, the sterinberg CI2 at 179€...help :D

about the mic...maybe u're right moresound...the 220 comes with a carrybag (that can be useful to keep it safe) and with a spider suspension...so i just have to buy the pop and a stand for the mic :D
i see the AKG 220 has some more features than the 120, but i don't know what they are about (like the bass cut and the -20db thing) D

sorry i'm a noob :D

p.s. yeah i added italy as my country :D
that user still haven't answer to me ;)

i just saw that the CI2 doesn't have a MIDI port...that's too bad, since that could be useful :(

hi everybody...i finally did my shopping :D
mic: AKG perception 220
interface: Cakewalk UA-25ex

but i just have a problem, since i can't hear myself nor see an imput signal from the mic lol

sorry for the delay. if you have problems please ask .... :)

Hey Fala haven't seen you in a long time!
You should give Alessandro a personal message about the problem. Your probably not far from one another.

sorry but I had to work during this time and then I went to hospital this summer.

hey guys!
sorry fala for your surgery! hope u are ok!

anyway, after some weeks i can say i'm doing fine with all this stuff, and i'm starting do understand someting...actually i took some days to figure out how to configure my interface with cubase :P
now i can easly record myself, insert mp3/wav tracks (using them as bases), or midi tracks where i can assign vst instrument (for my songs or for bases purpouses).

now i think i've to focus on how improve the recording...such as mixing and stuff...that sounds complicated eheh
for now i just add a little eq to my voice...a mild mid cut and a little bit bass and high boost...also if sometimes, when i hear my voice again (after the mixdown) i don't like it lol
i guess it's just a matter of experience ;)

here's a song i recorded with the mic and the interface...the base kinda sucks though, since it hasn't a lot of quality eheh
HERE u can download the mp3 (the wav was too big :P).

bye! :)
