Ok. We all know about the Oktava and the japanese knock-offs of Oktavas. Has anybody here actually compared the sound from the two? How do they compare(or contrast)?

Oktavas - - -

I remember reading a comparison of the two... For sound, some prefer the Asian and some prefer the Russian.

The Asian mic doesn't come with a -10dB pad and the internal connectors and other parts are not plated so they will eventually corrode.

The russian mic is plated... There's a website out there comparing the two somewhere.

there are a bunch of opinions on this, even a link to a shootout between the two someone did in this forum somewhere, problem being typing in the correct combination of words into the search.
oktava gets a lot of play here.

tried to search out the shoot-out but could not find it.

as i remember, the china was a little brighter (as would be expected) and not as nice in the low mids, but a plenty good mic that some people liked better
(specifically people that like slightly brighter mics)

I'm guessing the Chinese ones sound very much like a 603. I like the sound of the 603s, but I shure wouldn't trade for my Russian 012s. :)
