HELLLLLLOOOO, Im trying to set up a very modest recording area in my room, ive got minimal space but want vocals to sound real tight, i thought making a mic booth would be a good place to start(Tell me right off, if this isnt a great plan) so i dont have a closet in my room but somehting that size is what im looking for, i can get anything simple and basic built for free. If you guys can help me out with some info/adice and some pics, itd be appreciated.

Hiya,

Why do you feel the need for a booth? What do you intend to record in it and what gear are you using for recording?

Depending on your needs, it could be as simple as building a closet type box out of THICK plywood and covering the inside with appropriate insulation to remove the "boxy" sound.

There are numerous variables for this kind of thing, so some details from you would help.

Im gonna be recording a rapper, and him rapping in my open bedroom doesnt sound like itll turn out right, so i figured a confined space would be a plan. We're using some Yamaha mic that i havent seen in 2 months, The rapper owns it and wants to use it, I dont know the specifics, itll be going into my mixer then into soundblaster live 5.1

OK, first thing I would be trying, (considering you want to keep costs down), is to come up with some way to create a "booth" out of thick blankets, doonas, etc.........the thicker you can make these "walls" the better, as they will eliminate a lot of the room sound (reverb) that could muddy-up your mix. Obviously, a shitty mic is always going to sound like a shitty mic, but at least if you can control unwanted room noise you have a better chance.

Look into doing it this way before you even consider anything more permanent.
