Has anyone ever used the Beta 52 on vocals? I had the preamps turned up all the way and you have to get up real close to it to actually get it in the RED. Although it pics out loud banging sounds or hand clapping very easily and will put it in the red really easily.
It's a very interesting microphone. I mic-ed up an acoustic bass just screwing around to see what would happen and it sounded cool, but not sure it's something that would be used in a recording.
Then I tried it on my vocals and it had a nice rounded sound although I had to get pretty close to it and use a pop filter even though it has some kind of screen built into it. It didn't sound like it was too much bass it sounded smooth and well rounded, that the best way I can explain it.
I think the pre-amps on the 003 Rack are very bright. When I was testing the AKG C 2000 Bs on my acoustic which was designed to be really bright, loud and pretty. It sounded way too bright for my tastes, but I was thinking it may sit well in a mix because I wouldn't have to EQ out any low frequencies and it'll give the bass guitar plenty of room to do it's thing.
Man, this stuff is fun though huh? Trying out new mics and coming up with game plans on how to approach your recordings. I have some more mics coming in that I've been scoring for cheap off craigslist in different cities of Texas. Lucky I have family all over Texas willing to do me a favor here and there
