thinking about this,

AKG D112 for bass drum
Sennheiser e604 for toms
Shure sm57 for snare
Shure PG81 for overheads
? hi hat
? ride

rock style of music.

thank you.

AKG 451 is a popular hi-hat mic. I've never had a need for a ride mic as the OH's capture plenty ride, so I can't weigh in there.

If you must mic the HH, lots of folks like the SM-81 or the AKG 414. I don't know why one might want to mic the ride cymbal - if you're not picking up enough articulation just adjust the cymbal height relative to your OH mics.

The high hat mic is generaly used for clarity and stick definition. It can really be any decent quality condenser since it only gets about 50% of the level everything else gets. You don't need to go overboard with the absolute best possible mic. Then again, don't by a $15 tape recorder mic. I'm inclined to also say you don't need a ride mic. You may also not need a high hat mic either. The overheads can pick it up pretty well.

some suggestions are:

Shure sm94
MXL 603s
Shure PG81
